Join us as we follow the mozambique to the streets of New Orleans! In this year’s Mardi Gras, local dance group Dile Que NOLA paraded with the Krewe of Zulu, representing the mozambique – and Cuban culture – as part of a New Orleans tradition that likewise brings “Africa” and Africanness to the fore in creative, festive, and multilayered spectacular fashion. The event will feature a screening of a new ethnographic documentary – Mozambique: Carnival Rhythm in New Orleans – that documents Dile Que NOLA’s return to Mardi Gras, followed by a panel discussion with participants.
This event is free and open to the public, supported by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.
