Archivists at Large
Archivists at Large began in 2025 as a collaboration between IPE staff and the Tunica-Biloxi Indian Tribe. IPE staff spent two days at Cemonia Strother Williams Library and Research Center at the Tunica-Biloxi Cultural and Educational Resources Center (CERC) in Marksville, Louisiana, working with CERC staff on processing their extensive physical and digital collection of cultural heritage materials related to the Tunica-Biloxi Indian Tribe.
Our work with the Tunica-Biloxi Indian Tribe is ongoing, and we believe our approach can serve as a model for collaborations between small cultural heritage organizations with significant archival collections and organizations with professional archivists on staff seeking to broaden their impact.
Collaborating with the Tunica-Biloxi Indian Tribe
In April, 2025, IPE staff travelled to the Cemonia Strother Williams Library and Research Center and spent two intensive days processing a substantial portion of the Tunica-Biloxi Indian Tribe’s extensive collection tribal records and cultural materials.
These efforts resulted in the processing and preservation of a substantial collection of photographs, audio/video materials, ephemera, educational materials, Tunica language materials, and artifacts.
